ANKARA – Turkey’s chief negotiator for EU talks said on Wednesday that there was no obstacle to the opening taxation chapter in Turkey's membership negotiations with the 27-nation bloc.

Meeting with correspondents of national news agencies, newspapers and TV channels over lunch in Ankara, State Minister and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis said that Turkey fulfilled the required criteria for opening the chapter on taxation.

"There is no obstacle before the opening of this chapter on June 26 (during the intergovernmental conference)," he said.

Regarding the social policy and employment chapter, Bagis said that Turkish Labor and Social Security Minister Omer Dincer was pursuing a busy schedule in relation to the issue.
