ANKARA - Forum Ankara Outlet, an outlet center in the capital, has distributed checks to hundreds of shoppers as part of the "If There is a Crisis, There is a Remedy" campaign.

Speaking at the outlet center Monday morning, Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, president of the Turkish Union of Chambers and Commodities Exchanges, or TOBB, said the solution to the crisis lies in Turkey.

"When everyone talks about a crisis, people stop consuming," Hisarcıklıoğlu said. "When they do that, consumption falls and many are left jobless."

He noted that a total of 29 nongovernmental organizations, including business and labor groups, launched the anti-crisis campaign. The TOBB chief said the private sector has done its part against the crisis. "If we agree that the way out is shopping, we have to [take responsibility]," he added. "In this respect, I congratulate Forum Ankara."

The outlet will hand out checks worth 50 Turkish Liras to the first 100 visitors every day until Aug. 31, Levent Eyüboğlu, chief executive of Multi Turkmall, said.
