The cave was exposed when a teacher wrote a letter and described the cave near Börtlüce village to Kula Mayor Halil Gülcü who is running the European Union Geopark Project to draw children's attention to geology and archeology.
After receiving the letter, Gülcü took action and started work to open the entrance of the cave that was closed due to erosion. According to the first studies, it was observed that some stalactites and stalagmites, formed over millions of years, had been destroyed by treasure hunters.
The size and depth of this miracle natural cave has not been defined yet, reported Doğan news agency.
Still in progress
Stating that there were very important figures formed by corroding limestone, Gülcü said, "As a result of the letter I received, we discovered this cave in the village where limestone is quite plentiful.
The formation in the cave is going on. It should certainly be taken under protection and put into service of tourism after necessary arrangements have been made.
his miracle natural cave would be beneficial for asthma patients because of the intensive oxygen in it. We built a road and other infrastructure here under the extension of the EU Geopark Project."
