ISTANBUL - Another chapter started in Galatasaray’s Seyrantepe Stadium project saga yesterday, as the construction company is set to change.
After initially winning the bid to build the football stadium in Istanbul, businessman and architect Eren Talu has put the construction on hold for the past four months due to financing problems. According to a story published by the Hürriyet Web site yesterday, the Mass Housing Administration, or TOKİ, is set to take the project "permanently" from Talu, as the architect ran out of the 30-day period to take drastic steps.
The Web site said that TOKİ will launch a new bid to find a construction company, but the details of the bidding were yet to be announced.
The works at the Seyrantepe Stadium were interrupted several times, with the workers going on strike because they were not paid.
Galatasaray Sport Club previously declared that the stadium would be ready by the start of the 2009-2010 football season, but then announced that it would play "one last year" at the Ali Sami Yen Stadium in Mecidiyeköy.
