Moderate Leftist Islamist

The opposition deputies of Republican People’s Party (CHP), have fallen into dispute about the Leadership of Sisli Mayor Sarigul. In their press conference, 3 of the dissident deputies described Sarigul as moderate Leftist Islam saying that he had no clean past and character.The opposition in CHP, known as the movement for power, was divided about the leadership of Sarigul. While 15 deputies were supporting Sarigul, Nurettin Sozen, Hakki Akalin and Mustafa Sayar made an announcement saying that to become the Chairman of CHP one had to be morally upright and honest. Hakki Akalin said that the Chairmanship of CHP was not an ordinary chairmanship and that, that seat represented the position of Ataturk. Akalin said that position required to be morally upright, a clean past and character and sufficient infrastructure and superstructure.Â
