Referring to the US Senate's acceptance of a bill which would push the separation of Iraq into three distinct regions, Bahceli noted that in this would have the inevitable affect of splitting up Iraq, and that the Turkish Parliament needed to have immediate discussions on this matter.Â
Bahceli also referred to Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's recently finished visit to the US, criticizing the fact that the PM was outside of Turkey during what he characterized as a critical time marked by risks and threats. He said "While the Prime Minister was ringing the opening bells on the New York Stock Exchange, the real alarm bells for the struggle against terror were ringing in Ankara. The recent developments reveal that Turkey has lost all hold on its initiative on the fight against terror, especially with respect to international dimensions therein." Bahceli maintained in his speech that despite the need for over-the-border pursuit of PKK terrorists, the Ankara government was ignoring terror events within Turkey in order not to disturb its friendship with the US government.Â

Bahceli also criticized Prime Minister Erdogan's reference to the recent massacre of villagers on a minibus outside the southeastern village of Besagac as the "last flailings" of the PKK, questioning which concrete moves the ruling AKP had in fact taken in order to find a solution to the ongoing problem.
