Remarks from the United States delivered on the most heated day of the Georgian-Russian conflict caused me to smile briefly amid appalling images of war.
The U.S. National Security Council accuses Russia of "a disproportionate use of force!"
I saw the recent news passing like a film before my eyes and remembered the incidents in Panama, Granada, and Iraq.
Particularly Granada! I was even concerned that this small island might sink into ocean under the might of the fully-armed U.S. army!
Just this small example reveals that "a country's own interests" are the only reality in international relations.
And the reality can be changed according to this.
The weapons, which were fired in Chechnya after the Chechen people "called for independence," can also be fired to support the will of freedom in South Ossetia.
Those who used the might of the world to bomb Iraq at a time when the army was about to surrender, can say, "Stop, do not use disproportionate force!" when others do the same thing.
And the reason for the recent confusion at Turkey's Foreign Ministry must have arisen from their not comprehending this situation.
