And so we have truly seen everything. The President of the Turkish Republic goes to sit at the feet of a Saudi king, who is in Ankara for a visit. The news, which was covered in the Hurriyet, was presented in this way: "this stance derived from respect for the king's age, and from the friendship that exists between these two men of state."

As everyone knows, there is a certain state protocol which have developed over the years in the Turkish Republic. This protocol dictates very clearly how it is that the President is to host, greet, and treat visiting foreign dignitaries.

These rules, and this protocol, is not being followed or put into place for the first time. After all, state protocol is found all over the world, and is followed similarily and with great care all over the world. Protocol based rules are actually what you could also call the "manners of state." They are the paths by which show certain state offices the ways to respecting the values represented by those offices.

In other words, a friendship which exists between two men of state is not enough of a reason to change this protocol.

Someone needs to inform President Abdullah Gul that the Turkish Republic was not formed in a bedouin tent, and maybe remind him that the rules that guide our state have formed, developed and been strained from hundreds of years of tradition.

Our state rules and protocols are so important that they cannot be casually destroyed through the Arabicization of those occupying official offices in Turkey.
