Every year, the forum asks the business world questions about countries’ standings in several fields including financial, technological and legal areas. The Global Information Technologies Report 2008-2009 also asks for opinions on press freedom. While the average forum country’s rating on press freedom is around five points, Turkey remained below the average with around four points.
Seven points represents free press while one represents an oppressed press. Countries like Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Zambia, Burkina Faso, Greece and Greek Cyprus are regarded as countries with more press freedom. The countries in which press is most free are Denmark, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Israel, New Zealand and Canada. The United States ranks 24 on the freedom of press index.
