GAZIANTEP - McDonald's Turkey continues its growth despite the heavy impact of the global turmoil to the country’s economy.
As the fast food industry managed to remain almost untouched by the global economic crisis, McDonald’s Turkey revealed it has ended 2008 with growth.
Collecting the fruits of having focused on its customers prior to the crisis, McDonald's Turkey increased its sales by 30 percent last year. McDonald's Turkey posted its 250 Turkish Liras in turnover last year. The company aims to open new chain stores in 2009 and increase the number of its employees to nearly 4,000. McDonald's currently has 120 restaurants in Turkey, according to Hakan Serim, the company’s general manager in Turkey. This year the fact food company is seeking to attain a growth of 10 to 15 percent by opening new stores. "This year we are planning to open 14 new stores. Four of those already opened. We are planning to revise our goals," said Serim. "It would be unrealistic to say that we have not been affected by the global economic crisis. However, it is true that the food, fast food industry has seen less of an impact from the turmoil.
"The 30 percent growth in sales we have managed to obtain last year was well above our expectations. This year we are planning 15 percent increase in the number or our stores and 15 percent growth in our salesÉ We aim to attain a turnover of 285-290 million liras in 2009,"said Serim.
"McDonald’s Turkey obtains 98 percent of its products from local suppliers. The business volume between McDonald’s and its local suppliers was worth $56 million," he said. Currently the company employs 3,500 employees. With the opening of new stores McDonald’s Turkey will hire an additional 400 to 450 new employees. "The rents the company pays for its stores also contribute to the country’s economy," said Serim.
