ISTANBUL - The SineMardin Film Festival, which was first organized four years ago in the southeastern city of Mardin, where there was no movie theater, will be held as an international event for the first time this year.

The festival will be held from Saturday to June 26 and will screen a selection of feature films, shorts and documentaries. SineMardin will also focus on cinema from regions beyond the border.

A special section focusing on Arab cinema will be realized in collaboration with ArteEast, a New York-based cultural institution, and Mardin Cinema Association. As part of the festival, there will be screenings of features, documentaries and short films of filmmakers from this region.

Seminars, conferences
The program also contains seminar and conferences with the participation of filmmakers and scriptwriters from Syria, Lebanon and Palestine including Ossama Muhammad, Noma Orman, Orwa Nyrabia, Anmar Hijazi, writer Khaled Khalifa as well as young cinema students.

At a conference called, "Regarding Other’s Pain," which will be organized by the Turkish Cinema Laborers’ Union, or SineSen, and Scriptwriters Association, or SENDER, there will be discussions on documentary filmmaking in the Middle East. Screenings in the festival will be held at the Mardin Cinema Association’s hall.
