Timur Bayındır, head of the Union of Hoteliers, Operators and Investors in Tourism, says tourism operators might refuse payment on election day, allowing holiday-makers to return home and vote in their home districts.
“In this way holiday-makers may go home the day before the general election, and return to their holidays the following day without worrying about cancelling their holiday plans,” Bayındır said.
Meanwhile, tourism-related internet forums and chat groups are taking a political – and partisan – tone, as some posters are reminding others to do vote before going away.
“Make sure to switch off the light bulb before you go on holiday” – a reference to the ruling AK Party’s logo - and “If you do not use your right to vote, our understanding of holiday-making will change” are two political slogans that have appeared online.
