KONYA - Turkish handicraft training courses have been launched in four European cities in an effort to help the people and introduce them to the country’s culture.
The Mayor of Konya, Tahir Akyürek said their latest attempt to introduce Turkish culture was to open courses in the Spanish capital Madrid. "As a result of our partnership with the Turkish-Spanish Friendship Group, two trainers working for the Konya Vocational Courses went to Madrid. They found a place there and announced the opening of the course in tile, jewelry design, wood painting and embroidery."
Speaking to the Anatolia news agency, Akyürek said the first course was opened in Bosnia Herzegovina. "The courses in various branches have received much attention in both countries," he said.
Akyürek added the course in Madrid would also offer training in the art of marble working.
The vocational courses that started with 18 students in 2003 within the body of the municipality had so far graduated 4,500 students since 2004 when it was re-established under the name Konya Vocational Courses.
