ISTANBUL - iDANS Istanbul International Contemporary Dance and Performance Festival, presented by the Bimeras Cultural Foundation, completes its marathon month-long program today with a fascinating performance that combines visual and cinematographic arts with choreography and performance.
Amsterdam-based Croatian artist Andrea Bozic will present her cine-choreographic work "Nothing Can Surprise Us," a piece about the impossibility of preparing for the future. During the performance, a small crew is filming a catastrophe survival scene, but scenes from other films constantly interrupt the scene.
"Nothing Can Surprise Us" is based on and inspired by Wolfgang Petersen’s "Das Boot," Ridley Scott’s "Blade Runner," Andrei Tarkovskys "Solaris," Alfred Hitchcock’s "The Birds," Claire Denis’ "Beau Travail," and Stanley Kubrick’s "2001 Space Odyssey" and "Dr. Strangelove."
The event will take place today at 8:30 p.m. at garajistanbul.
Dance and performance event
iDANS was launched in 2007 as Turkey’s only large-scale international contemporary dance and performance event. It is a multi-disciplinary venue that expands the notion of choreography and encompasses video installations concerts, lectures and performances as well as dance works.
A total of 83 artists from 20 countries including Turkey, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Croatia, Egypt, England, France, Germany, Holland, Iran, Italy, Lebanon, Russia, Serbia, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland and the United States participated in the second edition of iDANS, which started May 4.
This edition’s theme was "Dance On Time!" and it welcomed important leaders of global contemporary dance and performance fields. International scholars from different fields met for an academic conference on "Time" on May 16-17 at the Istanbul Modern Museum. The findings of this conference will be published as a book and presented at the next iDANS, scheduled for October 2009. The theme of this coming edition will be Crying Laughing.
