Ömer Keskin, 22, Bulut Umut, 24, Ahmet Erpehlivan, 23, and Hüseyin Çay, 21, who practice kung fu in a sports center in the northwestern city of Çanakkale, shoot short kung fu films using the material they have at hand. They have so far shot 10 films between seven and 20 minutes.
Because they have received requests from online viewers for new films, they have accelerated work on more films. Keskin, who works as a waiter, said he had watched all of Jackie Chan’s movies and also collected his films.
Keskin said nearly 20,000 people viewed their short film titled "Kung Fu Zamanı" (Kung Fu Time) online. "We also shot the second and third episodes of this film due to high demand," he said. "Our goal is to make a feature film."
Umut said making kung fu films was difficult because they shot films with hand cameras with their own budget. He said they also try to insert comedy to make kung fu films like Jackie Chan’s. "We believe that if we have opportunities, we can produce more professional films. We started doing it as a hobby, but people appreciated us and this led us to make new ones," he said. "We want to go further. We think that we can do better ones, but we have a limited budget."
Umut said no kung fu films have been produced in Turkey. "We want to make the first series," he said.
