PRISTINA - Turkey has made large contributions in relieving the pains of Kosovo’s people, the newly independent country’s president, Fatmir Sejdiu, said.
Speaking at a dinner hosted in the honor of Turkish Parliament Speaker Köksal Toptan and an accompanying parliamentary delegation, currently on a visit to Kosovo, Sejdiu said late Monday that Turkey's support to Kosovo was an expression of the cooperation between the two countries.
Toptan described relations between Turkey and Kosovo as "excellent" and could be an example to other countries. "Turkey gives high importance to the tranquility of the Balkans and its political and economic stability and welfare. Turkey's support will continue. Turkey wants each ethnic group to live in peace and tranquility in the region," he said.
Within the scope of his talks in Kosovo, Toptan visited Kosovar Environment and Spatial Planning Minister and Kosovo Democratic Turkey Party Chairman Mahir Yağcılar and watched a cultural program that was organized in his honor.
Earlier on Monday, he addressed the general assembly of Kosovo’s parliament in the capital Pristina. Toptan said the international community should attach great importance to the territorial integrity and stability of Kosovo in regard to the preservation of peace in the Balkans and the region.
"Because the tranquility and stability of Kosovo is a key to peace in the Balkans and Europe," Toptan said. Turkey fully supported Kosovo's integration into European-Atlantic institutions, he said. "Turkey believes that fundamental values such as pluralist democracy, the rule of law, universal human rights and respect for the rights of minorities should be settled and improved in Kosovo," he said.
