ANKARA - The capital invites people to see the world from a Japanese artist’s point of view, featuring Satoshi Date’s concept "KoRo" or "personal filter." Date’s collection tells of his inner world by using the power of multimedia; namely painting, fashion, music and video.
Inspired by an individual’s own unique experiences, memories and emotions, "KoRo" presents what is left for Date when he filters the world: the graceful dance of pale colors with fabrics, vast imagination reflected in paintings, magical flow of musical notes and movement screened by a personal video.
The organizer of the exhibition, Tılsım Ünlü, said, "This unusual display of multimedia pieces by the same artist has introduced a new concept to Ankara’s art scene. Visitors find it interesting and turn out has been satisfactory."
"My concept stems from the idea that each person’s genetic construction is unique and along with the external influences that affect us throughout our lives, this helps define who we are and how we interact and react to situations, as well as affecting the way we construct our own intricate web of perception," Date says in terms of his "filtered world."
In the exhibition hall, Date’s video named "Filtered" is shown in a special cave that he created himself. After the video, samples of his paintings surround the visitors. Date used different techniques in his paintings, including watercolor and oils. It is striking to see that it also tells the essence of his art’s philosophy is his garment designs hanged on his filter, something like a web covering the ceiling of the small room of the hall. There, one really sees what Date means by reflecting his art after filtering the world from his own point of view.
Starting to discover his world together with his passion for art at a very young age, Date went to London to study fashion, which he saw as a discipline that allowed him to combine all the ideas in one way. His work has been exhibited and reviewed throughout the world, one of his silk garments won first prize in the prestigious 'Silk Road Competition' at the British Library. Now, Date’s world is on display at Projektor, an alternative art gallery in Ankara that aspires to host local and international young artists.
What is left for visitors strolling around Date’s exhibition becomes the surprising and different world of a young artist that recalls Henry David Thoureau’s famous saying: "The world is but a canvas for our imaginations."
