İZMİR - Turkey’s western city of İzmir, which has hosted the UNIVERSIADE in 2005, is keen to stage the Europe Youth Olympics. İzmir Metropolitan Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu said the city would be a candidate to host the youth Olympics.

Talking at the diner hold on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Turkey National Olympic Committee, Kocaoğlu said the city agreed with the Turkey National Olympic Committee President Togay Bayatlı on competing to host the youth Olympics in Izmir.

Bayatlı said they had a meeting with the Europe Olympics Committee with the attendance of the committee president Jacques Rogge in Istanbul two weeks ago.
"Candidate-city mayors for the 2016 Olympic games, Chicago, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro and Madrid, attended to the meeting," Bayatlı said. "This shows that the role of mayors in these activities is very important. We were just talking with the mayor of Kocaoğlu about what we can do. Then, we decided to become a candidate for the Europe Youth Olympics, which is a very new organization. The first competition will be organized in Singapore. İzmir is very capable to host this kind of event. Now on we will work for this all together."
