An officer says the ship had private Israeli security forces aboard. They exchanged fire with the bandits and drove them away.

The commander tells Italian state radio that attackers were six gunmen in a small white speedboat. A statement says that none of the passengers and crew was hurt.

There's also been a pirate attack targeting a Turkish ship near Yemen. The ship with two British and four Japanese crew board apparently escaped.
