Italian PM Prodi: Turkey will be a "priceless resource" for EU

Speaking in advance of his two day visit to Turkey, which is to begin today, Italian Prime Minister Romani Prodi said that Turkey would be a "priceless resource" for the EU once Ankara had completed the necessary reforms for accession.

Prodi underlined in his statements that the Italian left administration, which is under his leadership, lends its full support to Turkish accession to the EU.
Prodi arrives today in Ankara, where he will meet with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and President Ahmet Necdet Sezer. Tomorrow, Prodi will join Erdogan for the official opening of the Bolu Mountain Tunnel. The tunnel, which is expected to make transportation between Ankara and Istanbul significantly easier, was started in 1990, with construction lasting a total of 5,030 days.
