ISTANBUL - Metro services along Istanbul’s line from Taksim to 4th Levent were canceled Sunday following a short circuit in the system’s electrical cables.
Trains running between the Taksim and Şişli stations were halted after the problem was detected in the cables running beneath the rails.
The reason for the short circuit has not yet been determined. The fire department was notified after security guards at Taksim station detected a burning smell and saw smoke. The guards cut off the power supply before firefighters arrived at the scene. No information was provided as to when the line between Taksim and Şişli would be operational again. Extensions were added to both sides of the TaksimĞ4th Levent line in March, thereby lengthening the track. However, commuters still have to switch trains because the extensions have not been aligned with the main rail.
