Istanbul: City where miracles happen

Turkey is no rookie when it comes to hosting an international football event. It has one particularly memorable experience from the famous 2005 Champions League final at tha Olympic Stadium.
Arguably one of the most thrilling final matches football has ever seen, Liverpool managed to win the European football’s top prize with an unforgettable victory over AC Milan on May 25, 2005.
The Italian side started the game at an amazing pace and scored three unanswered goals before half time. But an exceptional comeback from Liverpool saw the Reds equalizing with goals to Steven Gerrard, Vladimir Smicer and Xabi Alonso, all within in six minutes in the second half. In front of 70,000 spectators at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium, Liverpool eventually won the match on penalties (3-2).
The dramatic game has helped Istanbul gain a reputation among football fans since, as the 2005 final was remembered as "The Miracle of Istanbul."
Probably most bar owners miss that day, too, when they served to the ecstatic Liverpool fans till morning.
