ANKARA - The results of the recent Israeli elections were nothing but a "mess," according to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who was one of the loudest voices of dissent to the Israeli offensive in Gaza.
"The offensive was for support in their Feb. 10 elections. But they could not get what they wanted. Now there is chaos," he said to a group of students on Friday. "They did not gain credibility; they just lost it," he said.
Erdoğan earlier accused Israel of committing crimes against humanity in Gaza by killing hundreds of innocent children and women. And he shared these views with Israeli President Shimon Peres at a panel in Davos late January, where he accused the Nobel peace prize winner of "knowing well how to kill." "I tried to be the voice of my people in Davos and I personally feel uncomfortable with Israel’s disregard of everyone. I believe what happened in Gaza was unfair," he said. "Bombing defenseless people, using phosphorus bombs, operations with tanks and cannons, there is no excuse for it," said Erdoğan. When questioned on his Davos reaction, Erdoğan said: "What is important is to be the voice of the silent masses."
