Iraqi Kurds have presented a map of the area which they call "Kurdistan" to the Iraqi National Assembly for consideration in the country's new constitution. The map covers that northern part of Iraq, which is predominantly Kurdish and already under control of the Kurds – years of autonomy under US sanctions gave them this right – also includes the oil-rich city of Kirkuk. The map also shows that its southern borders would extend to and include the cities of Badra and Jassan, which lay 150 km southeast of Baghdad. These boundaries are well beyond the current autonomous region presently controlled by the Kurds.  Â
