Here is how Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has commented on the question of whether or not Turkish troops will be sent to Lebanon: "If you look at the bill presented on Tuesday, you will see that such a thing will not be allowed to happen, and that we will not accept such requests being made of our soldiers. We, as the Turkish Government, will withdraw our soldiers immediately if such a request is made."

Now, the "thing" that the PM is referring to is actually the UN Security Council decision 1701, which calls for the "disarming" of Hizbollah forces in Lebanon. This is what Erdogan is responding to. Though he may deny it, the fact is that the UN peace-keeping forces are being sent to enact, among other things, this decision from the UN. Yesterday afternoon, I looked at some of the internet polls being taken on this subject. The results show that people against sending troops are definitely in the majority across Turkey. Here are some results: (Hurriyet) No: 76.8%, Yes: 23/2%, (Milliyet) No: 84%, Yes: 16%, (Sabah) No: 69.66%, Yes: 28.74%.....

And just to make sure, I myself tried, and these internet sites don't allow people to cast more than one vote from the same computer. And so, for those wondering what it is the Turkish people are thinking on the soldier-to-Lebanon subject, this is just one more little insight.
