An international water sports competition was held in the Turkish city of Istanbul on Sunday.

The "Bosphorus" is the annual Asia-to-Europe swimming, rowing and sailing competition. Thousands of Turkish and international athletes aged from 14 to 71 take part under the motto "everyone needs sport".

The Turkish National Olympic Committee organized the competition on the Istanbul Strait. The swimming competition began from ferry port of Kanlica on the Asian side of the Bosphorus and ended in Kurucesme Cemil Topuzlu Park on the European side, totaling a distance of 6.5 km.

15-year-old Turkish swimmer Bertug Coskun was ranked the first, he was followed by two other Turkish swimmers named Alican Alacli and Berkay Polat.

574 swimmers, including 160 foreigners from 22 countries, registered for the swimming race but only 498 people joined the race.Â

Turkey's State Minister Kursad Tuzmen was ranked the 22nd in general ranking, and the second in the category of swimmers between the ages 46 and 50.

Also rowing, sailing and canoeing races were held besides the swimming competition.
