ISTANBUL - The International All-Stars beat the Turkish squad 130-122 to win the Beko All-Star 2009 basketball event Saturday, extending their domination in recent years.
Despite trailing behind the international team for most of the game, which was played in front of a sellout crowd at the Halkapınar Stadium in İzmir, the Turks’ late efforts helped them come within three points in the fourth quarter, 95-92, but the foreign players managed to keep that distance until the end of the game.
Antalya Municipality star Robert Traylor was named Most Valuable Player of the game with 22 points, while the Turkish team’s Hüseyin Beşok produced 21 points and Serkan Erdoğan, 20 points.
In three-point contests,
Beşiktaş Cola Turka’s Ömer Ünver defended his title to beat his opponents, including Aliağa Petkim's Reha Öz and Kepez Municipality’s Gerald Fitch.
Banvit’s athletic forward Jason Forte won the slam-dunk contest over Selçuk University’s Ekene Ibekwe, Darüşşafaka's Sean Banks, Efes Pilsen's Sinan Güler.
