Following the photographs which appeared in yesterday’s Hürriyet of Bozok sitting behind her desk, wearing a headscarf and smoking a cigarette, the Health Minister, Recep Akdağ has given instructions for an enquiry into the affair. However, officials from the Ministry declared that the photographs printed in yesterday’s Hürriyet were taken outside of Bozok’s working hours.
Not at work
Uşak governor, Mr. Kayhan Kavas, stated that an inquiry was underway. The governor said, “They said that this doctor was not working but on leave at the time of these photographs. The Health Board are dealing with the inquiry.” Head of Health in the province, Ali Taşcı stated, “The doctor had been sent to Mecca on duty. She had returned from her duty at the beginning of February, and visited her colleagues at the hospital. It is understood that the photographs were taken at this time.”
We saw it with our own eyes
Head of the Uşak branch of the Atatürk Society, which upholds Republican ideals, Ercan Uzun spoke thus: “There were complaints about headscarves from people about 80 per cent of hospitals and health centres in the Uşak area. We have personally seen state personnel wearing the headscarf. I cannot understand how, despite the existence of a Dress-code for state personnel, the governor of Uşak and provincial Health Board can possibly choose to ignore this issue. The Uşak Public Prosecutor should consider the Hürriyet article a formal complaint, and act upon it.”
