AMSTERDAM - ING Groep, the Dutch financial services company, posted yesterday a net loss of 3.1 billion euros for the fourth quarter of 2008 and said it planned to cut operating costs by 1 billion euros.
The shortfall consisted of a 1.07 billion euros loss at ING's banking arm, mostly due to increasing provisions for bad loans, and a 2.04 billion euros loss at its insurance arm, primarily due to investments gone sour.
