IMF delegation arrives in Turkey, loan talks ahead

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) team, led by new Turkey desk chief Rachel van Elkan, has arrived in Ankara on Thursday for talks on an expected loan agreement.

The IMF delegation will hold meetings with Turkish State Minister for Economy Mehmet Simsek and other senior economy officials in Ankara.

The delegation is expected to visit Istanbul after talks with government officials and meet with businessmen and representatives of the banking sector to discuss the financing needs of the real sector.

The IMF team will stay in Turkey until the end of January and talks are expected to resume again in February.

The new loan deal between Turkey and the IMF is likely to be approved by the fund in March.
