The home of Engin Akcakoca, who recently resigned from his post as the President of the Banking Regulating Board (BDDK), was raided by the Financial Police teams upon tip-off that he hid the lost documents belonging to the Imar Bank. The Financial Police organized a raid on the house of Akcakoca, who resigned from the presidency of BDDK on November 5, and some other apartments that were said to be used as repositories. Sisli Attorney General Metin Fadillioglu reportedly ordered the raid upon a tip-off that, “The lost documents of the Imar Bank case are in the depot of a friend of Akcakoca.” In fact, many documents related to BDDK were found in the raids. Akcakoca said, “These are the documents that I took after I resigned. They are totally related to my works. If the Attorney General comes, I will hand them to him.”Upon this statement, Mecit Ceylan, one of the public prosecutors in charge with the case came to the home of Akcakoca. The teams of the Financial Police took some of the documents found in the house. Akcakoca reportedly told the Financial Police that he had no special documents related to the operations in the BDDK, rather he filed photocopies of some of his important decisions in case of a legal problem. Engin Akcakoca resigned after 2.5 years of service from his post – despite the fact that the BDDK presidents are elected for 6 years – because of pressures by the government and certain circles.
