ANKARA - Hyundai has begun negotiations to manufacture the new i20 in Turkey. Hyundai Assan CEO K. H. Um arrived Wednesday in Ankara to begin a chain of meetings with the Ministry of Industry. Stating that the chance of manufacturing in Turkey was high, "We missed our chance two years ago with the Czech Republic. I will do my best to manufacture the car in Turkey," said Um.

Um explained that the i20 was already launched in Turkey and customer response was satisfactory. He also mentioned that the tax cuts introduced three months ago were highly beneficial for the market. "We made best use of this phase. We were able to introduce new employment opportunities and maximize our recruitment capacity. If the government issues similar other packages, it will be much help to the sector," stated Um.

Um also said he believed the future of the Turkish market was very bright. Comparing Turkey to Italy and Germany, Um explained, "There is a big potential in Turkey. The market volume in Germany is 3.2 million; in Italy it is 2.5 million. The Turkish market has the potential to reach 1 million very quickly." Um also visited the top-selling Hyundai dealer in Turkey, Neziroğlu in Ankara.
