Due to consumer demand and those who want to relieve themselves of the stress of the crisis and hope for better luck, the sales of red underwear have increased by 10 to 20 percent.
Bahri Özdinç, owner of Anıl Underwear and president of the Underwear Industrialists’ Foundation, or TİGSAD, said they increased red underwear production by 20 percent every December. "Sales this year have topped last year. Our firm produced 80,000 items of red underwear. It is likely only 5,000 will be left by New Year’s Eve."
Ten, one of oldest underwear brands in Turkey, have also increased red underwear sales by 20 percent. Ten manufactured 6,000 pieces of red underwear for December this year as they sold 5,000 pieces last December. "We will overcome the crisis with red underwear," said Deha Orhan, board chairman for Ten.
