Greek agent Savvas Kalenderidis, who accompanied PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan during his flight from Greece to Kenya and who stayed for 17 days with him in Kenya, testified in the suit brought in Athens for the illegal entry of Ocalan to Greece.Kalenderidis said that he was a lieutenant colonel in the Greek army and he also worked for the Greek intelligence organization. Kalenderidis said that; I did not now that we would fly to Kenya. I got out of the plane thinking that we arrived in South Africa. Then, I received an order to send away Ocalan from the embassy residence in the region. After I told him about the developments, Ocalan decided to get out of the residence on his own will. Kalenderidis, who has a knowledge of Turkish and Kurdish, stayed in Turkey for 6 years. He was appointed to the Izmir Chief Consulate in 1992, during the prime ministry of Konstantin Micotakis. He was sentenced to 4 years of prison after his intelligence activities were revealed by the National Intelligence Organization (MIT). After that he was recalled by Greece with an agreement. He had close relations with Kurds.Â
