MUĞLA - Heavy rain may have severed life on the Aegean Region, but it was good in some cases as well.
Several dams around Muğla have reached full capacity as a result of the recent heavy rain.
According to a written notification by the Muğla Governorship, the water levels in dams are high beyond expectations.
"The water level behind Geyik Dam was 105 percent, while in other lakes water levels had increased substantially," said the statement.
Irrigating the Milas Plain and providing water to cool the Yeniköy Thermal Power Plant, the Geyik Dam held over 43 million cubic meters of water as of Feb. 16. Last year capacity was at 58 percent last year.
The water level in the Bayır Dam, which is to irrigate the agricultural lands of six villages, has reached 80 percent of capacity.
Moreover, the Mumcular Dam, which irrigates the Mumcular Plain along with providing drinking water to Bodrum, has its water level up to 40 percent. The water level in Mumcular Dam was recorded at 33 percent last year.
Lacking water last year, the Yatağan Kazan reservoir and Ula reservoir are also filling. Two reservoirs are crucial in Muğla and cities nearby, as they provide water for agriculture sector.
"The water level at Ula resevoir, which is at 70 percent at the moment, is expected to rise to full capacity soon," the statement read.
