ISTANBUL - The number of swine flu cases in Turkey rose to 10 on Friday as the Health Ministry said the (A)H1N1 influenza virus was detected in two more people, who arrived in the country earlier this week.
The patients, who arrived in Turkey on Wednesday from New York and Toronto, were quarantined and were reported to be in generally good health, the ministry said in a statement.Â
Â
Earlier this week, the Health Ministry confirmed the virus in four other people returning from the Unites States.
Â
Turkey reported four cases of the deadly H1N1 virus in May in a U.S. citizen of Iraqi origin and his mother who were flying through Turkey to Iraq, and two Turkish citizens returning from the United States. The two Iraqi-born U.S. nationals were released after being treated at a hospital in Istanbul.Â
Â
Turkey has placed thermal cameras at airports and border crossings to monitor travelers in an effort to prevent infections.
Â
Worldwide, the disease has reached 66 countries and infected 19,273 people since the disease was first uncovered in April, killing about 120.
