Hamas to aid students

ISTANBUL - The Islamist rulers of the Gaza Strip, Hamas, are willing to cover the food and accommodation costs of Turkish students who want to attend university in the besieged territory, Cabinet Secretary General Muhammad Avad said on Wednesday.
"The scholarship opportunity is a display of gratitude for the Turkish people for their constant support to the people of Palestinians," Avad said.
Following the Israel’s devastating winter military operations in the Gaza Strip, Turkey pledged to donate at least $50 million in aid to war-torn Palestinian territory.
Avad said the surprise decision for the scholarships was evaluated with Turkish officials during Hamas delegations’ visit to Turkey. "Until now at least 37 applications were made from Turkey," senior Hamas official said.
