Gulf investment sought in Turkish agriculture

ISTANBUL - The government has been holding talks with investors from Gulf countries for possible investment opportunities in agriculture, an official said late Wednesday.

"We are in talks with foreign investors who are interested in the food and agriculture sectors, especially from the Gulf countries," said Vedat Mirmahmutoğulları, the Ministry of Agriculture Undersecretary

Mirmahmutoğulları spoke at the "International Investments in Agriculture and Food Sectors" session of the "Turkey: A Safe Haven for Investment" conference in Istanbul, organized by the International Investors Association of Turkey.

Mehmet Aktaş, chief executive of Yaşar Holding, Renato Juric, the general manager of Syngenta, Rasim Karaş, Vice President of Danone Tikveşli, Zeynep Öztekin, chairwoman of Pan Tarım and Ömer Taşçı, the general manager of Cadbury Turkey were other speakers at the session, which was moderated by David Judson, editor in chief of Hürriyet Daily News & Economic Review. Judson said Anatolia is where agriculture was born and today’s issue is the role Turkey can play in the next agricultural revolution.
