Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul, continuing in his Ankara rounds to gain approval from different circles in advance of the upcoming presidential elections, met yesterday with top ranked members of the largely Kurdish Democratic Society (DTP) Party, congratulating them for their stance at the opening of the newly elected Turkish Parliament (TBMM).
Addressing the DTP, Gul said "I find your party's stance and actions in the parliament very positive. I hope that the atmosphere of dialogue and tolerance which has so pleased the public will continue this way." The DTP leadership, which appears to be leaning towards open support for Gul's candidacy for president, will make it's final decision today at its directorial meeting.

For his part, DTP co-chairman Ahmet Turk expressed his hopes for the upcoming term, telling Gul "Guns need to be removed from the solution for the Kurdish problem in Turkey. Along these lines, you need to be a president who is able to embrace all of Turkey."Â
