TAMPA, Florida - Mike Green set an NHL record for defensemen by a scoring a goal in his eighth consecutive game as the Washington Capitals beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-1 in the NHL on Saturday.
Green made it 4-0 from the low slot during a power play at 5:33 of the second. He was mobbed by his teammates who left the bench. Boston's Mike O'Connell had a seven-game goal-scoring run in the 1983-84 season.
Alexander Semin, Alex Ovechkin, Shaone Morrisonn and Eric Fehr also scored for Southeast Division-leading Washington, which has won five of seven. Michal Neuvirth made a glove save on a first-period breakaway by Vincent Lecavalier, and finished with 31 saves to win in his first NHL start.
Tampa Bay got a goal from Ryan Malone. Green has 10 goals and 17 points over the last eight games, and is one game away from tying the overall Washington consecutive game goal streak set by Alan Haworth (1985-86) and matched by Mike Gartner (1986-87).
Elsewhere it was Predators 3, Bruins 2 after second overtime. At Nashville, Tennessee, David Legwand beat Manny Fernandez in the fourth round of a shootout after scoring twice in regulation as Nashville edged Boston.
Boston forced overtime on Zdeno Chara's goal with 1:16 left in regulation. Blake Wheeler also scored for NHL-leading Boston in its fourth straight loss. In Los Angeles the score was Oilers 3, Kings 2. Dwayne Roloson made 39 saves in regulation time and stopped both shots he faced in the shootout to lead Edmonton.
Sam Gagner and Robert Nilsson scored for Edmonton in the shootout.
Dustin Penner had a goal and an assist, Shawn Horcoff scored a power-play goal and Ales Hemsky had two assists for the Oilers, outshot 24-8 through the first two periods and 41-21 overall. Drew Doughty scored a power-play goal for Los Angeles in the second period, and Dustin Brown tied it during another power play with 26 seconds left in regulation. At Philadelphia, the Flyers flew past the Islanders 5-1. Martin Biron won for the first time in more than a month, stopping 38 shots for Philadelphia in his 10th straight win over New York.
Arron Asham, Claude Giroux, Scott Hartnell, Matthew Carle and Simon Gagne scored for the Flyers.
Andy Hilbert scored for New York, which has lost five straight.
At Chicago it was Blackhawks 6, Stars 2. Martin Havlat had two goals and an assist and Jonathan Toews added a goal and two assists in Chicago's winning return to the soldout United Center. Troy Brouwer, Colin Fraser and Kris Versteeg also scored for the Blackhawks, playing their first home game since Jan. 21 following an eight-game trip.
Patrick Sharp, the Blackhawks' leading goal scorer with 23, left the game limping just 39 seconds in with an injury to his left knee or leg.
Fabian Brunnstrom and Brian Sutherby scored for Dallas.
At Toronto, Jason Blake scored goals 19 seconds apart in the third period as the Toronto Maple Leafs overcame a two-goal deficit to beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-2.
