Great achievement of Turkish physicians

During the first day of the World Cancer Congress in Geneva, Switzerland, which runs from Aug. 27-31, the Turkish Association was given the award for launching a number of projects in Turkey since the day it was founded, supporting scientific researches and expending efforts to inform people on cancer.

In an interview with the A.A, Professor Tezer Kutluk, chairman of the association, said that the award was the sign on their success in medicine.

"The association founded in 1947 by leaders of 57 non-governmental organizations, is the first organization in Turkey for cancer research and control. It is also the oldest organizations in its area in the world," he said.

The International Union Against Cancer is the only non-governmental organization dedicated exclusively to the global control of cancer. Its vision is of a world where cancer is eliminated as a major life-threatening disease for future generations.

Based in Geneva, Switzerland, the UICC unites more than 322 member organizations in 102 countries in the global fight against cancer.
