-- COURT SENDS SIX MORE PEOPLE IN PRISON UNDER ERGENEKON CASE
An Istanbul court arrested six more people under an investigation into what is publicly known as Ergenekon case, an alleged criminal network with suspected links to former senior military figures and bureaucrats. Journalist Tuncay Ozkan and Gurbuz Capan, former mayor of an Istanbul district, were among the six people who were put behind bars for being a member to a terrorist organization.

-- TALABANI RE-INVITES GUL TO IRAQ
Iraqi President Jalal Talabani re-invited his Turkish counterpart Abdullah Gul to visit Iraq during their meeting in New York on the sidelines of a session of the U.N. General Assembly. "I would like to visit Iraq soon in a convenient time and show my support for Iraq," Gul told reporters after his meeting with Talabani.

Journalist Tuncay Ozkan; former Esenyurt mayor Gurbuz Capan; Adil Serdar Sacan, the former chief of Istanbul Anti-Organized Crimes Department's; retired judge colonel Tanju Guvendiren; a member of the Arbitration Board of Turkish Football Federation; Emcet Olcaytu, a former lawyer of Labor Party (IP) chairman Dogu Perincek; and doctor Huseyin Nazlikul were arrested within the scope of the Ergenekon investigation. The suspects said they did not have any link with the Ergenekon organization. They were sent to Metris prison in Istanbul. Â

-- STORM TO CONTINUE
The storm and rainy weather, that has been affecting Istanbul, will also continue on Sunday. Two ships, including a Russian and a Cambodian, ran aground due to storm. A Georgian-flagged ship was ripped off into two. Roofs were destroyed in many cities, trees were uprooted. Citizens, who were travelling to other cities for the Feast of Ramadan holiday, had difficulties due to bad weather.

--"CRAZY TURKS" PUT TO SEA
"TCG Heybeliada", a totally Turkish-made corvette, was put to sea on Saturday. Speaking in the ceremony held at the dockyard command in Pendik, Istanbul, Naval Forces Commander Admiral Metin Atac said, "this is a success of the crazy mariner grandchildren of the Crazy Turks."

-- HIS GUILT: MILITARY INTERVENTION INCOME: 4,000 YTL
Journalist Tuncay Ozkan, arrested within the scope of Ergenekon case, said, "my monthly income is 4,000 new Turkish liras (YTL)." Former mayor Gurbuz Capan, former police chief Adil Serdar Sacan, retired judge Tanju Guvendiren, lawyer Emcet Olcaytu and psychologist Huseyin Nazlikurt were also arrested on charges of being a member of a terrorist organization. Ozkan was accused of inciting for a military intervention, and police asked him about the Republican demonstrations and the monetary assistance to a TV channel of the Republican People's Party (CHP). Ozkan declared his monthly income as 4,000 YTL.

-- FIRST NATIONAL WAR SHIP ON SEA
The first nationally-designed war ship "Heybeliada" was launched on Saturday. Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, "one can have a word to say in the world by having a word to say in maritime."

-- JOURNALIST SENT TO PRISON AFTER 13 HOURS OF INTERROGATION
Journalist Tuncay Ozkan, also the founder of the private TV channel, Kanalturk, was sent to prison by an Istanbul court under an investigation known as the Ergenekon case. Ozkan and five other suspects were put in Metris Correctional Facility. Ozkan rejected accusations: "I just wanted democracy in rallies and panel meetings."

-- TURKEY LAUNCHES ITS FIRST NATIONAL WARSHIP
TCG Heybeliada, Turkey's first national warship, was launched on Saturday in a ceremony in Istanbul. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Parliament Speaker Koksal Toptan and Chief of General Staff Gen. Ilker Basbug attended the ceremony. The cost of the corvette-class ship is estimated around $260 million.

-- SIX MORE DETAINED IN ERGENEKON CASE
Six more people, including Gurbuz Capan, a former mayor of Istanbul's Esenyurt district; journalist Tuncay Ozkan; and former police chief Adil Serdar Sacan; were arrested on Friday night within the scope of Ergenekon investigation. Yilmaz Celik was detained in Ankara on Saturday and sent to Istanbul. He was claimed to be the head of Hizb-ut Tahrir organization. In his statement, Tuncay Ozkan said Republican demonstrations were legal, and he talked with many people due to his occupation. Gurbuz Capan said, "I am a victim if there is such an organization." Sacan said he launched the first studies regarding Ergenekon in 2001, and he hid documents.

-- CHP CHALLENGES
Kemal Kilicdaroglu, the deputy chairman of the Republican People's Party (CHP) group at the parliament, challenged Dengir Mir Mehmet Firat, the deputy chairman of the Justice & Development (AK) Party. Kilicdaroglu suggested that CHP chairman Deniz Baykal's and Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan's political immunity should be lifted and they should be tried. "If you cannot dare this, you can lift only the political immunity of our chairman (Baykal)," he challenged Firat.

-- FIRST NATIONAL WAR SHIP
Turkey's first nationally-designed war ship "Heybeliada" and minesweeper "Akcay" were put to sea by a ceremony on Saturday. Saturday was the 470th anniversary of Preveze Naval Victory during the rule of the Ottoman Empire.

-- FEAST OF RAMADAN TO BE RAINY
Turkey will welcome the Feast of Ramadan by a rainy weather. It will be rainy almost in every part of Turkey during the Feast of Ramadan holiday, to begin on Monday and end on Sunday. Istanbul will be stormy and rainy on Sunday.

Media boss Tuncay Ozkan was arrested on charges of being a member of Ergenekon terrorist organization. Also, former police chief Adil Serdar Sacan, former Esenyurt mayor Gurbuz Capan, a retired colonel Tanju Guvendiren, Emcet Olcayto and doctor Huseyin Nazlikulu were sent to prison. All were accused of being a member of the Ergenekon terrorist organization and taking action for the organization.

-- A NEW DETAINEE IN OPERATIONS AGAINST HIZBU'T TAHRIR
Yilmaz Celik, a top member of the Hizbu't-tahrir terrorist organization, was detained in an operation in Ankara. Four lieutenants, arrested within the scope of Ergenekon case, are claimed to prepare the members of the Hizbu't-tahrir organization to provocative acts.

-- IF WE AGREE WITH ARMENIA, BORDER GATES WILL BE OPENED
President Abdullah Gul, who is in New York for the United Nations (U.N.) General Assembly, said that a climate for solution of Turkish-Armenian problems had occurred. Gul said, "if we solve problems in this process, we can have every type of cooperation and (border) gates will be opened." Also, Gul met Iraqi President Jalal Talabani on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly meeting. Talabani reiterated his invitation to Gul and Gul said he would visit Iraq.
