-- FIRST REACTION FROM AKP

One of the AKP's leading figures, Bulent Arinc showed strong reaction to ongoing fraud case on Deniz Feneri in Germany, calling for a probe for the claims in Turkey as well. "The incidents in Germany should be investigated, a probe is required. There are prosecutors in Turkey who can do that," the former speaker of the parliament added.

 

-- NO INVESTIGATION AGAINST PROSECUTORS

Justice Minister Mehmet Ali Sahin has not given permission to an investigation against Zekeriya Oz and two other prosecutors who were carrying out the Ergenekon probe. There were nine separate denouncements against the prosecutors. Earlier, Sahin rejected another request for an investigation into death of Kuddusi Okkir, one of suspects of the probe.

-- PKK EXECUTES TWO OF ITS MEMBERS

The PKK terrorist organization has executed two of its members as they were trying to escape with a great amount of money they stole from theÂorganization. Murat Yucel and his girlfriend were decapitated.

 

-- WANTED HACKER CAPTURED

Turkish hacker Cagatay Evyapan, who has been wanted by both the FBI and some police departments in European countries for ten years, has been captured by Turkish police in his luxury villa in Istanbul.

A passenger plane of the Atlasjet has just escaped a head-on collision in the air. Experienced pilot of the plane, Zeren Gulec, managed to prevent a deadly accident with a last minute maneuver. It caused panic among 86 passengers on board the plane.

-- SURPRISING VISIT

Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Michael Mullen will pay a surprising visit to Istanbul on Sunday. The United States did not make any statement about the visit. Admiral Mullen will hold talks with President Abdullah Gul, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Chief of Turkish General Staff Gen. Ilker Basbug.

World's most dangerous hacker, chased by almost all secret services, wasÂcaught in his villa in Istanbul. Cagatay Evyapan, nicknamed "chaO" in the internet, was known for fake credit cards he copied. He was apprehended with his seven friends. The criminal network cleaned up nearly $500 million in Turkey, police said. It was claimed that Evyapan said he would swindle 4-5 billion dollars from several U.S. banks if police could not get him.

-- TERIM'S CONTRACT SUSPENDED

Turkish Football Federation suspended its plan to extend national football team coach Fatih Terim's contract until 2012. Terim's contract wasÂpending because of his behaviour in Turkey's match against Belgium in 2010 World Cup qualifiers and a possible punishment from UEFA.

-- PILOT PREVENTS DISASTER IN AIR

An Atlasjet plane which was bound from resort town of Bodrum to Istanbul with 86 passengers on board, has escaped a likely disaster. Pilot of the plane realized that they were about to collide with a private jet over the western province of Izmir. Zeren Gulec managed to prevent a deadly accident with a last minute maneuver.

-- THY BECOMES 7TH BIGGEST AIRLINE COMPANY IN EUROPE

Turkey's state-run airliner Turkish Airlines (THY) has become the 7th largest airline company in Europe, outpacing Italy's Alitalia by passengers carried in the first seven months of the year. THY carried 12.16 million passengers, a 15.7 percent rise in January-July period, and climbed to the 7th rank, according to figures given by the Association of European Airlines.

-- THY TAKES PART IN TENDER PROCESS BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA AIRLINES

The Turkish Airlines (THY) has become one of companies taking part in the tender process for 49 percent stake of the Bosnia-Herzegovina Airlines. The process will be finalized by September 29, 2008.

-- PROTECTION FOR PROSECUTOR OZ

Justice Ministry has not given permission to conduct investigation into

Ergenekon prosecutors, including Zekeriya Oz. The ministry said there was not enough evidence about prosecutors.

 

-- "WE ARE READY TO FACE IT"

Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan said Turkey's proposal to set up joint research commission on the incidents of 1915 was still on the table. "We are ready to face our history. We have nothing to be ashamed of in our history," Babacan said while commenting on relations between Turkey and Armenia.

-- ASSURANCE FROM RUSSIA

The Russian Embassy in Ankara has said that Russia would continue providing safe energy to its partners including Turkey. The embassy released a statement saying that Russia would not use natural gas as a weapon against Turkey. The statement said that Russia also needed its cooperation with Turkey, third biggest natural gas purchaser of Russia behind Germany and Italy. The embassy said that Russia became Turkey's number-one commercial partner, adding that amount of mutual investments reached $10 billion. Highlighting importance of energy in Turkey-Russia cooperation, the embassy said in its statement that fuel oil and energy accounted for 70 percent of total trade volume between the two countries.

 

-- ENERGY PROJECT OF THE 21ST CENTURY

Three parties of the "energy project of the 21st century" which will transport the oil from the Samsun-Ceyhan pipeline to the Red Sea via Israel and then to India, have met in Ankara for the first time. High-level officials from Turkey, Israel and India discussed technical details. The project was first brought onto agenda during Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's visit to Israel in 2005.

-- PILOT SAVES PASSENGERS

An Atlasjet passenger has escaped a likely collision with a private jet in the air. The CRJ 900 plane took off from the airport in resort town of Bodrum with 86 passengers on board. The pilot, Zeren Gulec, realized that they were about to collide with a Chalenger 604 jet of the Canadaair. Gulec managed to prevent a deadly accident with a last minute maneuver.

 

-- CHAO CAPTURED

Turkish hacker Cagatay Evyapan, who was known with his nickname ChaO in the United States, has been captured in Istanbul. Both FBI and police departments of several European countries wanted Evyapan for ten years for corruption over $500 million.
