--SALARY OF "BAYRAM"
Bayram Meral, a Turkey's main opposition Republican People's Party MP, has appointed his son as a consultant to the Road Union instead of him where he resigned after elected as member of parliament, Star daily reported. Meral's son earns 5,000 YTL monthly from the union.
--FOREIGN LANGUAGE IS CHINESE IN SEVEN SCHOOLS
As tourism and economy relations developed with China, Turkish National Education Ministry included lessons on Chinese language in curriculum in schools. Teaching of Chinese language has started in seven vocational schools for tourism and trade as pilot course in Ankara, Istanbul, southern province of Adana, western province of Izmir and central Anatolian province of Nevsehir. The ministry aims to increase the number of such schools next year.

--A NEW BEGINNING IN CYPRUS
Full-fledged negotiations have begun between the two parties in Cyprus. President Mehmet Ali Talat of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) met Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias in the buffer zone. The two discussed further steps in the coming months about administrative issues and share of power on the island.
--MULTIDIMENSIONAL SIEGE
A counter-terror meeting took place at the Prime Ministry Office in Ankara under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Besides the fight against the PKK terrorist organization, legal, economic, socio-cultural, psychological and diplomatic measures were high on agenda of the meeting.
--FOUR TERRORISTS KILLED
Four terrorists were killed in the southeastern province of Sirnak. A group of PKK terrorists opened fire on a gendarmerie outpost in the town of Beytussebap with long-range weapons and rocket launchers. Security forces launched a large-scale operation and killed four terrorists.

--HERE IS BAYKAL'S VIEWS ABOUT HILTON MEDIA
It was 2005, and there was a convention of the Republican People's Party (CHP). CHP chairman Deniz Baykal spoke about Hurriyet, Milliyet and Radikal. The Dogan media group launched a campaign against Baykal to replace him with Sisli Mayor Mustafa Sarigul, who would give a construction permit in Hilton two years later.
Baykal accused the Dogan media during the convention and said, "during the governments and the policies supported by a certain media group, Turkey was a victim of emptied bank coffers' worth 80 billion USD. A certain media group has only been dealing with the CHP convention for a few days. Is this interest only because of public responsibilities and duties, or do some people from this convention have expectations?"
--"THIS EXPERIMENT WAS A RELIGIOUS DIRECTIVE"
Members of the Religious Affairs Directorate and some theologians supported the experiment made in the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) to solve how the world was created. Ali Bardakoglu, the head of the Religious Affairs Directorate, said that every experiment made by human beings was known by the God.
"I do not think that such inventions contradict the divine will. The experiment in fact will discover the clues about how everything was created. The human beings are walking ahead with the wisdom and reason the God gave them." Professor Saim Yeprem said, "the Koran in fact orders us to search how the nature was created. This experiment is fulfilling this order."

A person, who has the new credit card named "fish", will have the chance to win presents such as automobile, yacht and apartment for each shopping worth of 10 YTL ($7.87). "Fish card", which is offered by Boyner Holding and Akbank, has the same qualities as other credit cards. The card gives people the chance to win presents everyday, every week, every month and each new year.
--PERIOD OF CROSS-BORDER MOTION TO BE EXTENDED
Counter-terrorism board convened yesterday. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Chief of General Staff Gen. Ilker Basbug also attended the meeting. The officials said after the meeting, "PKK terrorist organization has come to a breaking point." The motion which gave the authority to General Staff to stage cross-border operation was also discussed in the meeting. Erdogan said that they were not against extension of the period of the motion for one more year.

--DOLLAR OVER 1.27 YTL
With the purchasing orders coming from London, one U.S. dollar climbed over 1.27 new Turkish liras (YTL). Istanbul Stock Exchange (IMKB) was shaken by share selling orders and dropped about 5 percent. Thus, IMKB was the stock exchange that was affected the most in the world. The national index was down 1,907 points and dropped to 37,388 points.
--ARTEMIS AGAIN
The "Temple of Artemis" in the Ephesus, which was one of the seven wonders of the world, will be reconstructed in its original shape and dimensions. The temple will be re-built with marbles on Kurutepe, near the ancient temple. Thus, the Temple of Artemis will be re-erected and regional tourism will be boosted.

--ONCE UPON A TIME THEY WERE AUTONOMOUS
Neutrality of boards such as the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK), the Capital Markets of Board of Turkey (SPK) and the Higher Education Board (YOK) which are defined as "autonomous" in relevant laws and carry out quite important functions, has been overshadowed recently. EPDK became one of sides to initiatives of Petrol Ofisi and Calik Group to establish a refinery in the south. The prime minister himself explained that the board did not have the authority to say the last word. The prime minister, not the Supreme Board of Radio and Television (RTUK), revealed result of an application by the CNN Turk TV Channel on a licence for territorial broadcast.YOK has completely changed after appointment of Yusuf Ziya Ozcan as its president. YOK has supported all decisions made the government.

The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, of the most renowned modern dance companies in the world, will perform in Istanbul under its 50th anniversary tour. The three performances sponsored by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV) will take place at the Lutfi Kirdar International Congress and Exhibition Hall on September 17, 18 and 19. The company's 50th Anniversary tour will begin in Tel Aviv, Israel in the first week of September. Dancers will take stage in Romania, Greece, Spain and Italy after performing in Istanbul.
Founded in New York in 1958 by choreographer Alvin Ailey and and a group of young African-American modern dancers, the company is currently made up of 30 dancers as well as artistic director Judith Jamison and associate artistic director Masazumi Chaya. The group is known with its performances bringing together beauty, spirit, hope and passion.

--DEATH CAMP CLOSED
The Health Ministry learned that a losing-weight center, that belonged to Dr. Muzaffer Kushan who is only a surgeon, got a hotel license and was illegally treating patients for "obesity". Upon a report prepared by the inspectors, authorities decided to bar all activities of the Kushan's Clinic in Polonezkoy, Istanbul. A sample of the report was also sent to the prosecutor's office in Beykoz district, who was investigating the death of a 19-year-old girl, Dila Kurt, in the clinic.
