--TRNC BREAKS THE EMBARGO WITH POKER TOURNAMENTS
Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), recognized only by Turkey, breaks the international embargo by the help of casinos that reached a number of 23. TRNC hosts poker players from Israel, Greece, Italy, Russia, Norway and Greek Cypriot Administration and promotes the island with Texas Holdem Poker. A casino in TRNC applied to the World Poker Tour (WPT) to organize one of the competitions of Texas Holdem Poker tournament.

--MORALE OF MARKET RISES, USD DROPS
U.S. dollar lost six percent in value and dropped to 1.5670 YTL from 1.72 YTL yesterday thanks to deal expectation with IMF as well as the effect of Central Bank's foreign exchange auction. The Istanbul Stock Exchange (IMKB) National-100 Index rose 2.29 percent to 24.895 points. World stock exchanges are alsorising.

Winners of the 25th Aydin Dogan International Caricature Contest received their awards. Federation of Cartoonists' Organizations (FECO) President Marlene Pohle, who was the head of jury, said that they wanted to see Aydin Dogan Contest as FECO member.

--STOCK EXCHANGE UP, U.S. DOLLAR DOWN
There was a sign of recovery in global markets yesterday. Asian stock markets were up more than 14 percent. European stocks were also on the rise. The Istanbul Stock Exchange (IMKB) closed the day after a 2.3 percent rise. U.S. dollar weakened against Turkish lira and was traded at 1.5398 YTL.
--WORLD TO FACE CRISIS IN ISTANBUL
The first World Economic Forum (WEF) on Europe and Central Asia will be held in Istanbul this week. The forum will be the first regional WEF meeting after the global financial turmoil. Politicians and business leaders will discuss challenges faced by the regions and the path towards a common collaborative future.

Unity was stressed in messages of leaders for Republic Day. Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said, "it is time to glorify the high values which make us a single nation and a single state." Republican People's Party (CHP) chairman Deniz Baykal said, "if we use the resources of democracy to deteriorate the Republic and to erase the gains of Republic, we would give the biggest harm to democracy."

--TOBB RUNS OUT OF PATIENCE
Rifat Hisarciklioglu, chairman of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges in Turkey (TOBB), Turkey's largest business organization, did not mention any name but criticized the Prime Minister, who drags his feet to support private sector in paying their external debts. "We did not make this debt in gambling. We made investment and created employment," he said.
--ERDOGAN: WE ARE NOT AN ANTI-IMF GOVERNMENT
Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan, who earlier lashed out at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) saying, "We will talk to them but we will not let them throttle us," spoke about the IMF again. "We are not an anti-IMF government. But we will keep going on our way if they do not show tolerance," Erdogan said.
