--EXPORTERS DO NOT CONSIDER GLOBAL CRISIS
Turkish Exporters' Assembly (TIM) president Mehmet Buyukeksi said annual exports rose by 32.67 percent as of September and amounted to $132.7 billion. Buyukeksi said this rise was pleasing at a time of a rise in feelings of uneasiness and uncertainty and the U.S. centered financial crisis affected the whole world.

--317 BOOKS TO BE OFFERED FOR SALE IN 40 COUNTRIES
A total of 317 books were published in foreign languages in the past three years with the support of the Turkish Culture and Tourism Ministry and distributed to many countries around the world. The United States, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, France and Italy are among those countries.

--GUL REMINDS ABOUT EU
The new legislative year in Ankara started with the opening speech of Turkish President Abdullah Gul on Wednesday. In his speech, Gul stressed that "the steps that must be taken, should be made as soon as possible." The conclusion of entry negotiations with success depend on an understanding above political parties and making reforms in the shortest time possible, Gul said.

--TURKEY'S EXPORTS INCREASE BY 36.42 PCT IN SEPTEMBER
Turkey's exports were up 36.42 percent in September when compared to the same month last year and reached $12.162 billion, announced the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) on Wednesday. According to a written statement issued by the TIM, Turkey's exports between January and September increased by 35.43 percent when compared to the same period in 2007 and reached $102.472 billion. Between September 2007 and September 2008, Turkey's exports were worth $132.770 billion.

--GUL WARNS IN PARLIAMENT
President Abdullah Gul relayed many messages in his address at the opening of legislative year of the parliament. "The European Union (EU) process can not be left on its own course. The crisis affecting the world today will have an impact on our country, but we should turn this crisis into an opportunity. New works for the constitution should be inclusive. Turkey has signed international agreements to deal with corruption. There can not be any step back," Gul said.

--NEW TURKISH LIRA TO BE INTRODUCED ON FRIDAY
New paper money and coins of the Turkish Lira, which will be ushered in at the beginning of 2009, will be introduced on Friday. A press conference will be held on October 3 in Central Bank to introduce the paper money and coins.

--WARNING FOR 2014
Turkish President Abdullah Gul delivered the opening speech at the beginning of the new legislative year in Ankara on Wednesday. In his speech, Gul called for urgent steps to be taken by Turkey so that the country can take advantage of the EU budget that will go into effect in the year 2014. Gul asked the Turkish parliament to take immediate steps on three matters: laws regarding the EU should be handled immediately; the National Program should go into effect with the contribution of all parties; and, the EU Adjustment Commission should be made more powerful.

--41 TURKS LOSE LIVES IN TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS IN 3 DAYS
Highways turned into pools of blood during the Ramadan Feast in Turkey. Forty-one Turks lost their lives in traffic accidents over the past three days. During the same period, 268 Turks have been injured due to traffic accidents.

--CLASH IN DIYARBAKIR: ONE SOLDIER KILLED
One soldier died and another one was injured in a clash between security forces and the terrorist PKK organization in the mountainous region in Hani and Lice towns of the southeastern province of Diyarbakir.

--PEOPLE FROM 187 COUNTRIES ARE IN TURKISH PRISONS
There are 1,533 foreigners from 87 countries in Turkish prisons. According to Justice Ministry data, there are 295 Iranians, 137 Syrians, and 127 Turkmens. Separately, there are 86 people who do not have any citizenship.

--PARLIAMENT OPENS
President Abdullah Gul called for new constitutional arrangements in his address at the opening of the new legislative year of the Turkish Parliament. Gul said, "New constitutional arrangements should strengthen Turkey's national unity and social solidarity, and should have an overall approach."

--HISTORICAL TRANSFORMATION IN TURKISH-ARMENIAN RELATIONS
Armenian President Serzh Sargsian will meet Turkish President Abdullah Gul in about two weeks. The first initiative was made on Sept. 6 in Yerevan and the second will be in Istanbul on Oct. 16. The visit of the Armenian president following the visit of the Turkish president opened the doors towards a positive process in one of the most sensitive problems in the Middle East.

--EXPORTS AMOUNT TO $150 BILLION
Turkey's annual exports amounted to $132.7 billion as of September, while 86.04 percent of the exports were from industry and 11.21 percent from agriculture in the sectoral basis. The biggest rise in September, when compared with the figures from the previous year, was in iron and steel products.

--FIRST SPEECH IN PACE AS TURKISH CYPRIOT LEADER
President Mehmet Ali Talat of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) delivered a speech at the general assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for the first time with the title, the leader of the Turkish Cypriot people. Talat said the TRNC welcomed the wish of the new Greek Cypriot administration to launch talks, adding that "the TRNC is ready for solution".
