--SOCCER WIND BLOWING FOR PEACE
The wind that started to blow with the national soccer game President Abdullah Gul watched in Armenia has brought an atmosphere of peace in the Caucasus. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, who met in Russia on Sunday, signed a declaration to solve the problems without battling. The leaders gave assurances to follow only peaceful diplomacy to solve the problem, and to go on with talks under the mediation of Russia, the United States and France-- the co-chairmen of the Minsk Group.

--THEY ARE UNDERMINING UNITY AND SOLIDARITY
Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan flew to Hakkari with ministers and MPs by Skorsky helicopters on Sunday. They were escorted by Cobra helicopters. Erdogan slammed the Democratic Society Party (DTP), and sent messages of peace and brotherhood to the local residents. "They are undermining our unity and solidarity, and they do not have any affection and love for my people of Kurdish origin. They are only exploiting them. Our common identity is the citizenship of the Turkish Republic. We unite under this identity and we have to achieve it," Erdogan said.

U.S. Ambassador Ross Wilson completed his term in office in Turkey and will soon return to his country. Wilson says Turkey is a majority-Muslim country, which is stable, powerful and has self-confidence. He says U.S. officials have better understood this after the Cold War and 9/11.

--"THOSE WHO ARE AGAINST SINGLE STATE SHOULD LEAVE"
Protests by Democratic Society Party members during Prime Ministers Tayyip Erdogan's visit to Hakkari turned into clashes. Demonstrators chanted slogans in support of the terrorist organization PKK, clashed with police and stoned journalists. PM Erdogan, who spoke in Hakkari, recalled "one state, one flag, one nation". "Those, who are against these, have no place living in Turkey. They can go anywhere they want," he said.

--KEY HIT-MAN EXTRADITED
During his meeting with Austrian Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik in April, Foreign Minister Ali Babacan criticized Austria of not extraditing Cihan Yildiz, a member of the terrorist organization Hezbollah; Remzi Kartal and Riza Altun, members of the terrorist organization, PKK. Five months after the meeting, Austrian judicial organs decided to extradite Cihan Yildiz, captured in 2007, to Turkey. A Turkish interpol team secretly traveled to Vienna to return Yildiz to Turkey. Claimed to be the hit-man of the terrorist organization, Cihan Yildiz was sought on an international arrest warrant for his involvement in the murder of Mehmet Sincar, an MP of the banned Democracy Party (DEP), in 1993.

--"OPPORTUNITY FOR TURKEY"
Economist Cemil Ertem said the recent global crisis was similar to the transformation capitalism had after two world wars. "China, India, Russia, Iran and Turkey will be the key countries," Ertem said.

The 22.5 percent increase in natural gas price has angered society. The price of natural gas rose 72.7 percent since last winter. People say, "The government has started to choke us before the IMF."

--GAS PRICE MAY GO DOWN IN 4 MONTHS
Turkish State Minister Kursad Tuzmen made an interesting statement amid reactions against the increase in natural gas prices. "Natural gas prices go up or down in line with oil prices. The recent fall in oil prices will be reflected on our calculations four months later. A price cut can be made in the future," he said.

--KARAYALCIN ALMOST CHP'S CANDIDATE
Deniz Baykal, the chairman of the Republican People's Party (CHP), said that Murat Karayalcin had to resign from his Social Democrat People's Party (SHP) to be nominated as the CHP representative for Ankara mayor. Karayalcin said, "I will do what I have to do to succeed in this initiative."

--DTP MEMBERS COULD NOT ENTER TAKSIM
Police did not allow the Istanbul branch of the Democratic Society Party (DTP) to make a press statement on their proposals for a solution to the Kurdish problem. Therefore, incidents broke out in Taksim, Tarlabasi, Dolapdere and the surrounding vicinity. Demonstrators carrying sticks and stones, clashed with police. Twenty-seven people were detained in the demonstrators that lasted hours. Two people were wounded in the clashes.

--ERDOGAN URGES THOSE WHO OPPOSE A SINGLE NATION LEAVE THE COUNTRY
Premier Tayyip Erdogan in Hakkari, urged those opposed to a single flag and nation to leave the country. During his visit to Hakkari, Erdogan referred to terrorist Abdullah Ocalan as "the one in Imrali". On claims that Ocalan was ill-treated, Erdogan said it was totally a lie and reiterated that his government was against ethnic, regional and/or religious discrimination. When pressing on the Democratic Society Party (DTP) and the terrorist organization PKK, Erdogan said, "We are talking about a single nation and a single flag, a single homeland and a single state. Who can oppose this? Those who are opposing it have no place in this country; they can go anywhere they want."

--HISTORY MADE US BROTHERS ON THIS SOIL
Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan spoke in Hakkari. "History made us brothers, not neighbors. We are the parts of an indivisible whole, nobody can divide us," Erdogan said. Erdogan accused the Democratic Society Party (DTP) of making ethnic identity politics, and gave several messages in Hakkari. "My nation will give the required lesson to those making such politics. Terrorism and democracy cannot co-exist. There is an upper link that is bringing us together, and that is we are the citizens of the Turkish Republic," Erdogan said.

Erdogan also said, "We will continue our investments despite terrorism. We will construct schools, hospitals and highways. We will not stop and go on working." Erdogan said, Hhistory made us brothers, not friends and we are the pieces of an indivisible whole. Those who are trying to sow discord cannot see it, and they will not succeed."

The government has launched initiatives to turn the global economic crisis into an opportunity. The government is planning to issue $1 billion Gulf bonds, and wants to draw hot money into Turkey.
