-- MEETING BETWEEN PRESIDENTS OF TURKEY AND ARMENIA WAS AN IMPORTANT STEP, GRIGORIAN
Armenian Minister of Sport & Youth Affairs Armen Grigorian said the meeting between Turkish President Abdullah Gul and Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan in Yerevan (in September) was an important step. Grigorian said the second step would be taken with the visit of Armenian Foreign Minister Eduard Nalbandian who would come to Turkey on Monday and the two countries would keep boosting the bilateral relations.

Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has provided assistance to 42 million Turks since 2003. The total value of assistance extended is 2.6 billion YTL ($1.55 billion). Most of the assistance was food, clothing, coal for heaters, educational and health related.

The Isik University, a part of the Fethullah Gulen community, in Irbil was inaugurated with a ceremony that was attended by various bureaucrats, diplomats and six deputies from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) on Saturday. Nechirvan Barzani attended the ceremony while Foreign Minister Ali Babacan sent a message congratulating the opening of the university.
-- IF TRENDS CONTINUE, 100,000 PEOPLE WOULD LOSE JOBS EVERY MONTH IN TURKEY, AKFEN HOLDING CHAIRMAN
The Chairman of Turkey's Akfen Holding, Hamdi Akin, said that if the present trends continue, 100,000 people would lose jobs in Turkey every month. If precautionary measures are not taken, unemployment would rise, Akin said. A period of savings would hurt the small businesses, Akin noted. Unless new investments are made, 100,000 Turks would be left without jobs every single month, Akin added.

-- DOMESTIC DEMAND MUST BE INCREASED, UNION OF TURKISH BANKS
The President of the Union of Turkish Banks, Ersin Ozince, said that domestic demand must be increased by providing tax cuts to consumers who use credits. "There is a need for a comprehensive list of precautionary measures in a state of economic crisis. There is a need for new sources and turning savings into capital for the economy," Ozince said.

-- ARMENIAN FOREIGN MINISTER DUE TO TURKEY
Armenian Foreign Minister Eduard Nalbandian will arrive in Istanbul on Monday to attend a meeting of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC). Following the summit in Istanbul, Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan would host a private dinner for Nalbandian. The BSEC Summit carries high importance for Turkish-Armenian relations. Diplomats said that Turkey will focus on five points while talking to Nalbandian: the establishment of a commission to study the incidents of 1915, determination of a timetable for the military pull-out of Armenians from Azerbaijani territory, opening of the Turkish-Armenian border gate, the expected visit of the Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan to Turkey and the Black Sea Stability and Cooperation Platform.

Paying a visit to India, Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan informed reporters on the package of economic measures. Erdogan said the country would overcome global economic crisis with minimum loss as a result of collaboration among the government, finance sector and the real sector. "There will be an increase in guarantee limit on deposits. But we don't think of an unlimited guarantee," he said.

Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan replied to questions of reporters about the package of economic measures in New Delhi, India. Erdogan said there would be the state guarantee on bank deposits, but it would not be an unlimited one. Turkey could overcome this process with minimum loss by means of solidarity between the real sector and the finance sector, Erdogan said.
