Turkish soccer team Besiktas became the champions in the Super League 2008-2009 season. The championship deadlock was finally solved with a game played in the western province of Denizli. Defeating Sivasspor 2-1, Besiktas took the championship after five years. Moreover, Mustafa Denizli became "the first Turkish coach" that has taken Besiktas to the championship.

-- TWO TURKS WITH SWINE FLU

 It has been revealed that two Turkish passengers who have traveled from the U.S. to Turkey on two separate flights were carrying the swine flu (A/H1N1) virus. One of the infected passengers is currently receiving treatment in Istanbul, while the other was hospitalized in the Aegean province of Izmir.

--ERDOGAN: WE ARE CLOSER TO A SOLUTION

Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said that there were no magical formulas for a solution to the Kurdish problem. "However, we are closer to a solution, I hope we can make statements regarding employment, new investments and incentives in the coming week," he said.

 

Also, President Abdullah Gul referred to the recent terrorist attack and said, "Taking democratic steps is difficult in places where there is violence, terrorism and bloodshed."

--SWINE FLU IN TWO TURKS COMING FROM UNITED STATES

Swine flu was found in two Turkish passengers who arrived from New York and Houston to the Turkish cities of Izmir and Istanbul. The Health Ministry said that the two sort treatment in hospitals for high fever and muscle pain, and are receiving medical care.

Besiktas soccer team became the champion of this year's soccer season. The last time Besiktas became the league champion was in 2003, when they celebrated their 100th anniversary. This is 11th championship of the team, and Besiktas won two trophies this year, including the Turkey Cup and the league championship. The last time Besiktas won two trophies was 19 years ago. Mustafa Denizli became the first coach that made three biggest soccer teams (Besiktas, Galatasaray, Fenerbahce) of Turkey champions. Although Sivasspor was defeated by Galatasaray, it was ranked the second because Trabzonspor lost against Fenerbahce. Thus, Sivasspor can join the preliminary elimination round of the Champions League. Trabzonspor, Fenerbahce and Galatasaray will join the European League.

 Speaking in the eastern province of Bingol, Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said, "there are not magical formulas, but there is a will for a solution" when talking about the Kurdish issue.

Speaking in the eastern province of Bingol, Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said that peace and stability could soon be ensured in the region. During a meeting of the Justice and Development Party, or AKP, Erdogan said that his government was very determined to stop the bloodshed in the Eastern and Southeastern Anatolian regions. Erdogan stressed peace, brotherhood and peace, and said the government was taking brave steps but nobody believed in them so far. "Really, these dreams can come true," he said.

--SWINE FLU IN TWO TURKISH PASSENGERS

Officials said that two Turkish citizens who had traveled from New York and Amsterdam to Turkey were carrying the swine flu virus. Turkish Health Ministry said that the infected passengers were currently in good condition.

 

Officials also asked the people who had traveled on the same plane with the infected passengers to contact the health ministry for a medical check.

--SIVASSPOR IN LEAGUE OF GIANTS

Sivasspor soccer team, which ranked the second in the league standings at the end of this year's season, got a visa for the Champions League although it was defeated by Galatasaray in the last game. Sivasspor can join the Champions League after Trabzonspor lost against Fenerbahce.

--ERDOGAN: WE ARE VERY CLOSE TO SOLUTION

Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan gave hope about a solution of the Kurdish problem, and will make public a new package. Erdogan gave important messages about the Kurdish problem in the eastern province of Bingol. Erdogan said, "Every one should show common sense against those who want to hamper a solution. There are not magical formulas and miracles, but there is a will for a solution."

 --MEMORY LOSS FORMULA TO PASHA

Claims of memory loss suffered that retired general Sener Eruygur, who was discharged from hospital after he had a brain hemorrhage, has confused minds. Experts find the development "suspicious," while it reminds every one Ibrahim Sahin, a convict of the Susurluk case. Doctors believe the hemorrhage would not affect memory, however Eruygur's lawyer says the memory loss was "very serious". If it is proved that Eruygur has lost his memory, he could pave his way out of a possible life imprisonment in the Ergenekon case. Jurists say that Ibrahim Sahin was released from prison for the same reason.
