Six Turkish soldiers were killed in a mine blast in Cukurca town of south-eastern province of Hakkari. The blast occurred when a military vehicle carrying soldiers ran over a land-mine planted by terrorist organization PKK. Soldiers Ziya Bener, Ozkan Dumlu, Deniz Demirci, Cafer Celik, Kemal Ozevin and Adil Yildiz died in the road-side bomb blast.

While Ankara concentrated on efforts to find a solution to the Kurdish issue, a PKK land-mine attack on a military convoy claimed the lives of six troops. Eight troops were also injured in the attack; one in a life-threatening condition. The military responded after the attack, sending F-16 warplanes to target a large group of terrorists in the Iraqi border region of Avasin-Basyan.

-- GIANT SHIP HITS MANSION IN ISTANBUL STRAIT
A giant ship run aground on the Istanbul Strait, hitting a mansion owned by famous Turkish actress Oya Basar. No one was injured in the accident. The ship was carrying logs from the Bulgarian port city of Burgas to Istanbul.

Cem Boyner, executive director of Boyner Holding, said that Turkey has been overcoming the economic crisis gradually. The economic crisis also caused significant changes in the sector, he said. "Tenants, shopping center owners, suppliers fully support each other. We are on board the same ship. Everyone is very tolerant," Boyner said.

Democratic Society Party, or DTP, leader Ahmet Turk criticized PKK's latest attack in which six troops were killed. "Whoever wants a democratic solution, he should lay down weapons. This is the only condition to pave the way for politics," he said.

President Abdullah Gul said that acts of terrorism constituted a major obstacle to efforts to increase the living standards of the region. Following the statement, 72 non-governmental organizations, or NGOs, extended their support to President Gul and called on everyone to contribute to the peace process.
